Autumn/Winter Body Care..

The colder months are here people, the cold and dry air, for me it means drier skin and I hate it.
It used to be so bad for my skin that it literally felt like someone used a blade to make tiny cuts on my skin and it would itch so bad and leave dark marks.

I found out about the Eucerine complete repair intensive lotion with 5% urea and it worked wonders for my skin but it was too expensive for the quantity,  it only lasted me 2 weeks because it was 250ml. if you can afford it,I would highly recommend it.

I figured there had to be a solution to my skin’s excessive dryness that wont break the bank right? so I went searching and I came across the Nivea in shower lotion, I was confused at the concept but was desperate at that point so I bought it.

Basically I wash my body with my shower gel, I really do not have a preference I just alternate between a few that I find works.
I use my shower gloves to scrub, this removes the extra dirt and dead skin.

I then wash off to get all the soap off, and next I rub the in shower lotion like a cream all over my body and I give it about 3 minutes to do the job and then I wash it off

My skin feels soft and moisturized. The second thing I came across that also changed my skin was these two body lotions right here, the Nivea Q10 Plus firming body lotion and  Neutrogena Deep Moisture

These two lotions are the only lotions I alternate, both give my skin so much moisture and firmness.

for extra moisture when I know I will be out walking and in contact with the dry air, I have  special oil mixture that I make to pair with either one of the lotions.  Ran out of the oil but its basically Jojoba oil, Almond oil or Grape seed oil, Argan oil  Castor oil and Coconut oil

These are just oils that I have come to love how they work with my body, there a lot of oil mixtures online if you would want to explore, but for mine I do not have specific measurements only that I make sure to dilute the castor oil well because its such a thick oil.

I buy the Now brand of oils from Amazon and the Sunny isle Jamaican black castor oil.

One last thing I have to say is that if you shower, shower with warm water not hot water, and then colder towards the end. this is because hot water tends to dry out the skin but cold water on the other hand improves blood circulation around our organs which in turn refines our skin.

Skindinavia Primers..

If you have oily skin then you understand the struggle with makeup literally saying bye Felicia!! Even before you are done applying the make up…

I have oily skin, mostly my t-zone(forehead, cheeks, nose and chin) but the issue is my skin produces gallons of oil 😂😂😂😂 ( OK that’s dramatic.) but you get my point. My skin gets dry and tight too.

Now that’s frustrating because I want to keep my skin hydrated but I also want to keep the oils off, especially when the temperature is so high and a lot of the primers out there for oily skin tends to dry out my skin especially if I mistakenly over do it.

The company Skindanavia claims to have come up with a special Temperature Control Technology available in all their primers, which helps to cool down the skin and in turn prevent moisture loss and excess oil production.

Now this was really cool to me because I know from experience that the worse  thing you can do for an oily skin is skip on the moisture…the oils just come pouring out.

Skindinavia says this on their website..patented technology forms a lightweight, breathable web working with your makeup that slowly releases over 16 hours. The timed-release evaporation retains moisture longer while also drawing heat away from the skin as it slowly evaporates throughout the day. The results are fresh, cool makeup for up to 16 hours.

•The Makeup Primer Spray

Claims

Silicone, oil ,Paraben free and Cruelty free

Proven to reduce the need for touch-ups or blotting.

Formulated to be worn with or without makeup.
Helps to prevent redness, uneven skin tone and large pores.

Silicone-free formula creates a light, breathable barrier between skin and makeup.

Silicone-free primer mist delivers a smooth canvas for impeccable, long-wear makeup application.

 Offers long-term skin benefits.

My Experience

I love the feeling on my skin, it feels like its moisturizing my skin.

My make up goes on smoother and it feels weightless, I love the feeling of nothing on my face.

my skin can actually breath with this primer.

BUT…

I have to honestly say, it did not exactly keep my oils away for long, in about 2 hrs I started seeing  the oils even though it looked like a glow, by the 3rd hour I had to blot my face. but to be fair Skindinavia said it will reduce the amount of blotting during the day not stop you from blotting.

But I am still in love because my make up lasts longer now.

 MY TIP

If you are super oily, Apply a good mattifying primer on places you would normally get oily, after you spritz this primer, this will keep you from getting oily through the day and the skindinavia primer will keep your make up in place for sure.

The Finishing Spray(Bridal)

This is the claim on their website…

Kiss-proof, cry-proof and sweat-proof.

specially designed to resist the effects of excess moisture and helps keep makeup looking flawless.

Recommended for all skin types.

My experience

I feel like it hydrates my skin.

Gives me a nice subtle glow, takes away the really matte look on my face when I use a mattifying primer.

Keeps my make up in place
My make- up looks blended and airbrushed in a way.
The Make up Finishing Spray- Oil Control

To be honest I love the The Finishing Makeup spray(bridal) more than this one.. its just me.

Overall i really think that these primers are worth my money, i would be buying them again.

They have 2 sizes on the website, 40z and 8oz, they seem to have a discount most of the time on their website so if you are thinking of buying buy directly from the website trust me you will save money compared to other websites selling these.

I checked the website and I do not see that they ship to Africa, but there are online stores like

http://www.cocktailcosmetics.co.uk

http://www.love-makeup.co.uk

that ship worldwide.

Current skin loves…

Hey beautiful people, its been a while since I posted anything here, I have been preparing to resume school, moving and settling in took up all my time but now that all that is settled, am back!!!

When I think of a toner, am looking for mild, replenishing, something that would calm my skin after the washing, the exfoliation and so on.

I have been using the Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Turbo Toning lotion for a little over 6 weeks now, and am actually almost done with my first bottle … I love this stuff.

-It is alcohol and oil free

-Infused with pure 24k gold

-Contains 18 anti-aging neuropeptides and peptides

-Refreshes and softens skin

-Removes surface impurities

I love this toner because I noticed how gentle it feels on my skin, I know it  is not a toner filled with natural ingredients but if you are looking for an effective yet mild toner I think this is worth a look at. it smells fresh too.

I noticed my skin feels smoother  and refreshed after use.

Now it claims to diminish wrinkles and aging lines, I cant say I noticed that happening for me, but I will finish this bottle and a second one I have to see because when it comes to anti-ageing products you need to give it time to really see the bigger changes, I will let you guys know for sure.

Another product I have been trying for about about a month is the Murad Refreshing Cleanser from their AGE REFORM LINE.

-Refreshes and calms skin with Cucumber extract

Hawaiian White Ginger Algae Extract softens and smooth skin

-Thoroughly cleanses skin removing surface impurities without over drying

-It is a very gentle formula, soothes skin and infuses hydration.

This cleanser is very suited for dehydrated dull skin, I honestly saw all the effects listed above, I have been reaching for this cleanser unconsciously  everyday, especially on mornings that I noticed my skin looking tired and dehydrated.

Someone said I seem to like every product I have mentioned on my blog, yes I do like every product I talk about here because I make sure to use every product for at least two weeks before talking about it,that way I can honestly tell you about it. if I use something that has immediate effects I will mention, but I will not say I like anything I did not try or truly liked..I do not think that will be fair to the people that actually take the time to read about these products.

If for any reason you decide to try any product and you do not like it, am sorry, but what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. Thanks for reading, I will see you next post.

For the love of Peter Thomas Roth

Hey guys, I hope you had a great weekend? mine was not so eventful, although that is basically how all my weekends go..lol.

I think by now we have established my love for masks so its no surprise that this week’s post is about masks, lets face it, am always on the look out for masks.

I got the chance to finally try the Peter Thomas Roth masks  that I actually love. By the way do not tell my Mama, I was supposed to send these masks to her.

1.PUMPKIN ENZYME MASK

-Address dull ageing skin

-Clarify the skin tone and polish the skin for a brighter more even skin tone.

-Smells divine, the smell reminds me of my friends Banana cake..lol

2 ingredients that caught my attention was the

Natural pumpkin enzymes which exfoliates.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid which peels away the dead skin that makes the skin look dull to reveal a younger skin.

this helps your moisturizers, serum and any treatment to easily sink into the skin and do its job.

My experience

-My skin looks brighter and smoother

-I felt a change in the texture of my skin after 2 uses.

-I feel like my serum and moisturizer sinks in better.

-Felt a burning sensation after I applied it on my face but went away after I sat facing a fan, and as soon as I washed it off I did not feel any burn and I did not have any reaction.

-I advice that you make sure to apply sunscreen with  SPF of at least 30 if you have to be out in the sun because your skin is more sensitive after any AHA treatment, seriously do not skip this or you might burn in the sun.

-It says that you can use this mask 2-3 times a week, i personally use it once a week, and i will advice that if you have not used any product with alpha hydroxy acid before, you should limit it to once a week for at least the first 3 uses.

If you are looking to brighten your complexion and even your skin tone..this is the mask for you, I really love it. and for the amount you get I think its a great buy.

you get 150 ml for 33.90 Euro, I got mine from beautybay.com.

2.IRISH MOOR MUD PURIFYING BLACK MASK.

If you need a mask to draw out toxins from your pores and decongest the skin, look out for the ingredient, activated charcoal.

What this mask is supposed to do ..

Purify and refine the look of skin using the Irish moor mud.

Hydrate the skin with the hijiki seaweed.

Revitalize with the Volcanic ash.

Draw out toxins and impurities, minimize the look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles with the Activated charcoal.

My Experience..

-My skin felt refreshed, clean and visibly clear after use.

-I noticed the enlarged pores around my cheek look a little smaller after about 3 uses.

-I also felt a little bit of sting but nothing unbearable, and it did go away after I washed off the mask.

-I did feel that my skin was hydrated but I wont say it was unbelievably hydrated

TIP.. on beautybay.com, they have a set of five 50ML masks from Peter Thomas Roth for about 57 Euros I will advice you buy that, you get to try 5 masks and decide which you will love to invest in a bigger one.

Hope this post helped in a way and am so glad you came here, how about you comment below and tell me about your  favorite mask and if you have tried these masks tell me what you think.

My current skincare Faves..

Hey guys am back in your lives..😜😜 but I had to share this with you guys. These are the products that my skin is loving right now, I use these everyday morning and evening. I do this in 2 very simple steps

Cleanse

I use my Trusted Murad Essential C Cleanser and  Clarisonic brush. This cleanser has really stolen my heart, I got this in a mini set that came with a cleanser, serum and day cream from feelunique.com  and I will really advice you do that just to be sure you like it before making the investment on the big size.

-Has a burst of citrus scent that is so refreshing

-Has vitamin C which is great to brighten your skin, and repair as well

– I love that this face wash is 2in1 a cleanser and a toner so you don’t have to buy a toner too.

Ofcourse I raved about my Clarisonic in one of my post so no need to bore you but you know that thing is my bae after the Bae😜😜

Moisturize

Ok we need to take a moment and give honour where it is due ok? Ole Henriksen Truth serum Collogen booster is a brightening serum, vitamin C packed and I don’t know if it’s just me but my skin feels moisturized after this sinks in. I use one pump tap it into my skin, let it sink in and then follow with my face oil.

Vitamin C is one thing that I have made a staple in my skincare because it

– Aids collagen synthesis which in turn serves anti-ageing purposes(let’s face it am not getting younger😀😀😀)

-Repairs skin damage caused by sun exposure or just any environmental damage

-corrects any skin discoloration

There are a lot of vitamin c serums out there, a few very good ones that are not as pricey as this one and I intend to give them a try because you know anything to save the money. But if you can afford to splurge on this I am sure you will love it!

If you use a vitamin C serum in the day time a sunscreen is very important,  I use the Murad essential C day moisture with SPF 30 which is a travel size  but you can find a lot of creams with SPF out there.

Farsali Rose Gold Elixir  has changed my skin game completely, it’s an oil infused with 24k gold flakes that sinks into your skin like a dream, moisturizes, and just pampers your skin in general. 3 drops of this is more than enough.

I mentioned one of the owners of this company in my last post @farahdhukai is one of the creators of this oil, follow her on Instagram for hundreds of DIY skincare.

I talked about loving this cream in the post I made about Rival de loop company and I still adore this cream very inexpensive and by morning my face is like hello baby butt smooth face🤓🤓

I am addicted to masks and you should be too…

IMG_0606

They say the first step to solving a problem is admitting it so My name is Ritso and am addicted to face masks. I do not care what its made of fruits, clay, mud, name it I love it, I feel like masks are staples in any skin care regimen.

Here are a few reasons I think you should add at least one mask to your skin care regimen and this applies to the gentlemen too.

-Unclog and Cleanse Pores– if you think you are breaking out for no reason it’s probably because your pores are clogged and are not breathing enough. A detoxifying mask will do your skin alot of good. My favorite affordable masks for that are the freeman’s mint and lemon clay mask and the freeman’s avocado and oatmeal clay mask, the great thing is you can walk into any DMRossmann or Tesco to pick this up and is affordable. For people in Nigeria you can find this on eBay or amazon and hopefully a seller that can ship to your location.

-Deep moisture for skin– If you have dry skin or your skin is just in need of moisture,You can find masks that you can apply leave for a few minutes and it will give you this result or the ones that are more like sleeping masks.  For affordable ones I will highly recommend the Freeman’s cucumber peel off mask, gives you this cooling and refreshing feeling and this is silly but I love the feeling of peeling this off. I will say though do not apply this mask on your eyebrow or any part of your face that has hair or you will cry tears of terror…experience people!!!

-Treatment for skin– Some mask are tailored toward treating specific skin issues like hyper pigmentation, dark sports, uneven skin tone, dullness etc. I have not tried any inexpensive mask that I can vouch for but I used to have the Glam glow Super mud clearing treatment and it was amazing!! it is a lot of things in one, more on the pricey side but it lasted me 2 months because I used it only once a week, I even got the Bae hooked on it. You can either order this online or if you are in Hungary you can get this from Douglas.

-Glowy youthful skin– now I know it’s not just using a mask that will give you a glow to the skin but it will go a long way to do that, any mask with a tingle feel stimulates blood circulation this contributes to bringing the life back to your skin.

Another great thing about masks is that you can actually make yours at home from so many ingredients depending on what you need the mask to do. I can not give you a lot of DIY masks because to be honest I am always too lazy to try them but follow @farsalicare on Instagram for hundreds of recipes for home-made masks.

I really hope you find this post helpful, and  hope you get to try these masks and be hooked on masks like me, have a lovely day guys..so much love!!

Look a little deeper…

I always ask these questions, why does someone’s skin color or ethnicity automatically determine how he or she should be treated? what makes one person think he or she is or should be superior to another?

I  know that to the prejudice, you have a good reason or at least you think it is a good reason for being so inhumane to people but the only reason I can think of is ignorance. Ignorance from lack of knowledge and understanding or ignorance because we somehow have refused to know better, we know there is better but we would rather not.

Ethnocentrism, the belief in the inherent superiority of one’s own ethnic group or culture is something we all consciously or unconsciously have which if not controlled can be very dangerous, ethnocentrism simply means  I judge you using my beliefs, culture and values  as a standard, do you see how unfair that is? we both grew up being thought two different sets of values, I grew up in Nigeria and you grew up in Europe but I automatically think your beliefs, your values and way of life is inferior to mine and vice versa.

I believe that the only way you can truly say you understand a person is to empathize, take time to talk to that classmate or colleague that is a Muslim, take time to talk to that European or the Asian and you will be surprised at how much you will learn, mostly because you would see we are not that different.

The 3 metaphors of culture, is a concept I find very interesting,  they are the iceberg, fish in the sea and the  glasses. My favorite is the iceberg model, what you see when you look at an iceberg is nothing in size compared to the rest of the iceberg buried under the sea, basically there is more to what meets the eyes.diversity-iceberg-7215523

Now think of this concept in relation to the people we meet in our daily lives, we are quick to judge people’s actions or reasons for their actions, talk them down or up with just one look, but what we  do not see is what is buried beneath all that our eyes can see.

Take a good look at the picture above, behaviors, language, race, actions are what we can see from a distance. Look at the many more important things we miss out on when we fail to look beneath  sea, culture, religion, life experiences, age, physical abilities, thoughts and perceptions, values… it goes to show that our prejudice is simply from ignorance and the unwillingness to take time to know and understand each other, give each other a chance to be who we really are instead of boxing each other into a stereotypical cage based on what we read, heard or saw on the TV. Somehow we now learn everything from programmed information outlets,we have let the media  tell us how our fellow human being should be treated or viewed. I dare you to put off the TV and actually educate yourself.

Maybe if you do that you will get to see for yourself that just because i am from Nigeria, it does not make me a fraud. That just because he is from south Africa it does not mean he wakes up to a zebra at his door step. Maybe you will see that she is in fact  European but that does not mean she has no morals or is easy or disrespectful.

He is a Muslim but that does not mean he is going to bomb you in the next 5 minutes, she is a refugee running from war but before the war she was an English professor and her husband was a doctor.

The way I see it I have no right to say your way of life is the wrong way of life. To think that is a different thing but to go as far as force my beliefs down your throat is selfish and unfair, our lives will be so much easier we would just respect each other’s choices.

The struggle should not be to prove who is better, it should be to accept that we are all equal and deserve just as much respect and love as the other…

xoxo

Ritso..

its ok to be lost

I  remember when I first moved to  Hungary in 2010, it was the peak of the winter months so it got darker earlier and I was used to walking back to my hostel with my classmates, but that day I had stayed back to study a little more and had to get home alone. I was so sure I knew my way but boy was I wrong…lol

10 minutes into my walk I realized I might have just gotten lost, I kept going back to the point I started walking so I could maybe figure it out, turns out I took a wrong turn. I finally noticed some heat pipes lined on the fence and  remembered that on my way to school I noticed the pipes ended just by the entrance so I  followed the pipes until I   got to the gate. I never got lost again because I had those pipes to guide me but most importantly I noted where I  took the wrong turn. There is a saying that goes ‘when you fall, look at where you tripped  not where you landed.’

As a teenager I could not wait to grow up, get into the University and all that, oh boy I had no idea what it meant to grow up. Two years into university I realized maybe growing up is not as easy as I thought, maybe I am not ready for this kind of commitment.. Hahaha but it was too late, growing up is like a moving train whether you know where the train is going to or not, once you hop on honey the train will keep moving and the direction it goes does not depend on you because everyone expects that you checked your ticket to be sure you took the right one going to the right direction, no one will change the direction of the train just so you can get to your destination, its left for you to come down and find another way to get to where you were going.

So is life, you make mistakes, you make wrong decisions that somehow change the course of your life, and in the midst of all the chaos you feel like you do not know who you are anymore, like you have lost all bearing, I know that feeling and it sucks! But you can always retrace your steps, go back to the drawing board and figure out where it all went wrong, tell yourself the bitter truth where you need to and make the effort to do what it takes to make things right and just like i had the pipes to guide me remember the people that have always been there to guide you.

Stop finding ways to blame everyone else but you all the time,  sitting down and blaming others is like hitting your foot on a stone and instead of  telling yourself to be careful next time, you pick up the stone and start to hit it and screaming its your fault!!

I know everyone somehow expects us to have it all figured out but that is funny because we all are doing this life for the first time, so making mistakes is inevitable no matter how careful we may be..

3 Ways I Take Off My Make Up

blog pict1

I love putting on make up, But I also love to take it all off and get that fresh feeling of a clean skin. I have found that these 3 ways have worked so well to remove my make up.

1.Coconut Oil

I  take a little more than a pea size rub it between my palms and then distribute all over my face gently rubbing, no need to go hard on your skin because it does the job of breaking down the make up, if am wearing any eye make up, I would rub  gently with my eyes closed because I hate the feel of oil in my eyes. Once that’s  done i either wash off with my face wash  or i use my baby wipes. This is very good for the lazy girls because you can just wipe off and go to bed…

If you try to use this to take off your make up and you feel like its breaking you out,you can just switch it up for olive oil or jojoba oil, i say this because some people say it causes them to break out.

2.Garnier Micellar Water

Before I discovered this product I used another Micellar water, that was  3 times the price of the Garnier, thank God for days when the bank is not smiling, it forces you to find cheaper options and to be honest this does exactly what the more expensive  does which is remove any make up except of course its water resistant. Last week I went to Rossmann and noticed they now  have one mixed with oil which will take off water resistant  make up too.
price point -1699 huf (5.44 EURO) you get 400 ml and sincerely it will last you at least 2 months.

3.Baby wipes

Yes baby wipes girl!! its no secret but I feel like a lot of people still spend so much money on facial wipes which is way more expensive in the long run..I like to use the pampers baby wipes and luckily I seem to catch the sale  in DM or Rossman but lately I have been using the   Tesco baby wipes, just as good but cheaper and if you are lucky you can catch their  4 packs  for  999HUF  sale(3.20EURO)

The good thing about this 3 items is that you can choose from so  many inexpensive options, You do not have to use the exact brands I mentioned, but these are just the ones I can sincerely vouch for and have used.
